Robert Dingle has an ongoing interest in drawing as both a physical act and an intellectual proposition. His large-scale, monochromatic works are durational in nature, shaped through extended periods of making in which minimalist and geometric abstractions emerge from processes of research and data gathering. Drawing becomes a site where time, labour, and information accumulate.
Working primarily in the studio, Dingle shifts between multiple drawings simultaneously, using graphite sticks, wax, chalk and charcoal. His practice occupies a space between abstraction and figuration, and while his works appear minimal, they are underpinned by complex layers of information and statistical data.
Carefully mapped and painstakingly executed, each composition emphasises duration and repetition as critical elements of the work. Through this process, Dingle invites viewers to consider their own physical yet transitory relationship with the world, and the often-invisible systems—environmental, economic, and temporal—that shape it.
